Yoshiko, Waruna, and Kurane are supporting antagonists in Master Detectives Archive: Rain Code. They were students at Aetheria Academy, and members of the drama club. A while back, their collective friend Aiko was murdered, and the authorities labeled it a suicide despite many inconsistencies. The trio banded together to solve the mystery and find out who killed Aiko, and what to do with them when the mystery is solved.

Yoshiko was voiced by Azumi Waki in Japanese, and Brianna Knickerbocker in English. Waruna was voiced by Marika Kōno in Japanese, and Suzie Yeung in English. Kurane was voiced by Azusa Tadokoro in Japanese, and Laura Stahl in English.

What Makes Them Ensemble Dark Horses?[]

  • Despite only appearing in one case, along with the final one as zombies who appear in a single scene, not even getting a major focus moment like Huesca, Zilch, or Yakuo, they leave a very lasting impression, being the first legitimately sympathetic culprits, and genuinely making you feel bad when they die.
  • Their murder is extremely well-planned, with all three having major roles in it, and it's also very enjoyable to play through solving it, as it's really not obvious from minute one, unlike some other culprits, such as Icardi.
  • Their death is very tragic, and many fans believe they should've gotten the same "merciful" kill that Yakuo got, considering they were far better people than he was.
  • While the end to their case is incredibly easy from a gameplay standpoint, it doesn't hamper the case, as it only serves the story, making them feel like desperate teenagers wanting to survive and get vengeance for their friend. Their counterarguments being extremely weak also add to this feeling, and considering you have to present the photo pieces until they all line up, it can be heartbreaking. The finished photo is one of the most emotionally charged images in the entire game.
  • They're one of the few people who talk to you at the end of their case, explaining their motives, which only makes it even more tragic to watch.
  • Kurane especially gets love, due to her cute design and meek nature leading to easy speculation.
  • While Waruna comes off as a jerk, the loading screens give you info about her kindness to animals, making her an interesting character to analyze.
  • Their Mystery Phantom forms (plus Karen's) are really well-designed, and look a lot better than some other ones, such as Seth's or Dominic's.
