Tony is a supporting character of the 1994 video game Mother 2/EarthBound. He is a student of Snow Wood Boarding School at Winters and Jeff's dormmate and best friend, who also seems to have a crush on Jeff.
What Makes Him an Ensemble Dark Horse?[]
While he remained an unremarkable average charcater in the fanbase for a long time, once Shigesato Itou confirmed in a 2003 interview that Tony was gay, he rapidly gained a following among the LGBT fanbase. This made him popular for being one of the very few queer Nintendo characters, as well as the fact he came during a time where positively portrayed queers were rare. It is also liked how he is realistically portrayed for a boy his age and in-game his gayness it only hinted at rather than especially stated or shown.
His relationship with Jeff is an extremely popular fan ship given their close friendship and Tony's crush on him. There is many fan art and stories of Tony and Jeff's relationship, often times.
