Tidal Whale, known as Tidal Makkoeen (タイダル・マッコイーン Taidaru Makkoīn) in Japanese localization and known as Duff McWhalen in the Early English Localization, is a supporting antagonist in Mega Man X5. He was a reploid based on Sperm Whale, holding a jurisdiction in North Atlantic Ocean, which the Maverick Hunters required to produce hydrogen for the laser cannon.
He is designed by Ryuji Higurashi.
What Makes Him an Ensemble Dark Horse?[]
- In early American Release of Mega Man X5, the name "Duff McWhalen" has a wacky musician theme naming which is named after Duff McKagan. Some were disappointed if Mega Man X Legacy Collection 2 changed back into more generic "Tidal Whale", despite the early localized name was listed on "one of the worst Mega Man boss names ever."
- Story-Wise, he was a chief oceanographic museum and a captain of the maritime security force before he was infected by Sigma Virus. He wanted to have one last duel with the Maverick Hunter X or Zero so he can finally rest, making his fate tragic.
