Robert Vernon, better known as Tek Knight, is a supporting antagonist in the highly controversial adult comic-book series The Boys.
What Makes Him an Ensemble Dark Horse?[]
- Despite being a minor antagonist in the comics, fans like Tek Knight due to him being one of the few genuinely good heroes in the comics, alongside the Superduper team and Starlight.
- Additionally, following his live-action counterpart's infamous actions, the comic version of Tek Knight has since been revaluated more positively by fans, earning him a small following as a result.
- Though he lacks any powers unlike many of the other "heroes" or The Boys, he makes up for it with his high-tech suit, which fans like.
- He has some pretty funny moments, such as his therapist assuming that Tek Knight violated his cat, only for him to reveal it was actually the cup of coffee.
- He is incredibly sympathetic, as his tumour genuinely causes his need to have sex with things and people, something which the narrative shows that he hates. As such, it leads to him sending his sidekick Laddio away on a training journey as a result to keep him safe.
- His death, while somewhat played for laughs for the readers, is genuinely tragic since while he dies from a wheelbarrow falling on his head while saving a mother and baby as a last action of goodness, his dying moments imagines him saving the world from an asteroid by fucking it.
Trivia[]
- Only the comic version of Tek Knight counts as an Ensemble Dark Horse, as his live-action counterpart is universally reviled by fans for being a more villainous character who lacks his iconic suit from the comics, has Laddio chained up as a sex slave in his dungeon, has none of the redeeming qualities he has in the comics, and, most infamously, sexually assaults Hughie in a "dark comedic manner".
