The Talking Flowers are the supporting characters in the Mario franchise that first appear in the 2023 action-adventure platformer Super Mario Bros. Wonder.
They are sentient flowers that appear throughout the game, giving the player either minor hints or funny quips throughout their journey.
What Makes Them Ensemble Dark Horses?[]
- While fans have expressed concern over the fact that the Talking Flowers would end up being annoying upon reveal in the trailers at the time, this ended up not being the case and they all ended up being very enjoyable once they played the game for the first time.
- The Talking Flowers' dialogue are considered hilarious along with the slapstick humor that happens to them and it's the most prominent during the Wonder Effect where they freak out whenever the Wonder Flower is in effect. During racing challenges, the Talking Flowers cheering for the characters is what the players find to be very heartwarming.
- Even though there is an abundance of them, so many fans agreed that the Talking Flowers bring the game to life which is brand new since the previous games didn't have any NPCs like them, so they find it refreshing and welcoming in the case of the Talking Flowers and the fact that they fit in very well with the game's setting. Them stealing the spotlight doesn't detract from the spotlight given to the playable characters which the players do not mind.
- The game also provided an option to mute the Talking Flowers if the players ended up finding them irritating, and the majority of the players were reported to have chosen not to do so, due to them enjoying their dialogues and turning them off will have one asking, "Oh! Was it something I've said?".
- The Talking Flowers have garnered so much popularity that their quips and general humor have ascended to meme status.
