Sonic Man (ソニックマン Sonikkuman), alternatively spelled Sonicman, is a character originating from the video game Sonic the Hedgehog (2006). He is an eccentric individual from Soleanna New City who mimics and idolizes Sonic the Hedgehog.
What Makes Him an Ensemble Dark Horse?[]
- He is not relevant to the plot, such as rescuing the Princess or fixing the future in the main game. He just wanted to race with Sonic, which contrasts with the hated Princess Elise and Sonic romance subplot. Fans found solace in Sonicman's subplot and many preferred it over the main plot.
- His characterization, to sum it up, is that he just wanted to race with Sonic, whom he idolizes, while bragging his "good deeds" as an excuse. Even with this arguably lacking personality, he is a memorable character originating from a rather infamous Sonic title.
- His small name and big ego personality was remembered more fondly than some of the other characters in the game. Many fans found him more entertaining than Princess Elise herself.
- His popularity was shown when he was pitted against Mephiles the Dark, in Sonic Channel March 2024 Character Choice Vote, where numerous fan arts was dedicated for him. There is also a post about Sonic Man re-imagined as Satoru / License-less Rider, as the headcanon (with Robbie Daymond or Yuichi Nakamura as the voices), stalling the Deep Sea King in One Punch Man to make the fans root for him.
