I will stay behind, to gaze at the sun. The sun is a wondrous body. Like a magnificent father! If only I could be so grossly incandescent!
~ Solaire of Astora

Solaire of Astora is a supporting character from Dark Souls. He is the Knight of Sunlight who determined to find "his own sun". He is known to be a jovial person with an upstanding faith.

He is voiced by Daniel Flynn, who also voiced Blacksmith Vamos and The Giant Blacksmith in the first game, as well as Blue Sentinel Targray in Dark Souls 2, and Vileblood Hunter Alfred in Bloodborne.

What Makes Him an Ensemble Dark Horse?[]

  • He acts genuinely jovial towards the Chosen Undead, in which he can help progressing you killing the bosses. Not to mentioned for him being an idealist, making him one of the pure good characters in Dark Souls.
    • He is known to have naivety, despite being mentored by The Nameless King, in which it carries over in gameplay.
    • It's also revealed that he has blonde hair, should the sunlight maggot possess him.
  • The fanbase nicknamed him "Sunbro", "Brolaire", or "Praise the Sun Guy".
  • He also generates massive amounts of Memes such as "Jolly Cooperation" & "Praise the Sun". (Both were the misattributed Quotes known in fandom)
  • He can be summoned to assist you fighting bosses, such as Bell Gargoyle, Gaping Dragon, Centipede Demon, Dark Sun Gwyndolin, and Gwyn, the final boss of the game.
  • As the plot progresses, he became depressed for being inability to find "the sun" and letting his guard down on Lost Izalith. Both of his fates were unpleasant even depending on player's decision.
    • Should The Chosen Undead leave the chaos bugs alive for too long, Solaire will be killed by them, offscreen.
    • Killing the sunlight maggot would save Solaire from his insanity. If not, the player is forced to kill maddened Solaire and thus preventing you to summon him before the final boss fight.
    • Even if you and Solaire succeeded defeating Gwyn, Solaire is happy to find his own sun is along with him. However, linking the flame may doom his fate to be a lord of cinder, as well as one of the souls of cinder.
      • Not helping matters that Dark Souls III and The Ringed City DLC reveals the consequences of preserving the first flame is the state of the world is breaking apart as what The Ashen One have seen in the Kingdom of Lothric, The Drag Heap, and the titular Ringed City.
  • The "Praise the sun" gesture, which is the iconic gesture from the Warrior of Sunlight covenant members towards the players.
    • In Dark Souls II, the sunlight parma shield depicts him as a legendary hero of the Warriors of Sunlight, the predecessor of The Heirs of The Sun covenant.
  • An Amiibo figure of him for Promoting Dark Souls: Remastered on Nintendo Switch.
