I am Snowflame! Every cell of my being burns with white-hot ecstasy. Cocaine is my God -- and I am the human instrument of its will!
~ Snowflame during his drug-induced battle with the New Guardians.

Snowflame is a cocaine-powered supervillain from the DC universe. First appearing in New Guardians #2, he was presumably killed during a confrontation with the titular team in Columbia. However, years later, he would appear in Catwoman Vol. 5, where it was revealed he faked his death and moved his operations to the private island of Isla Nevada.

What Makes Him an Ensemble Dark Horse?[]

  • He only appeared in three comic book issues, those being New Guardians #2 in 1988, and Catwoman #23 and #24 in 2020. He was intended to die in New Guardians before that was retconned.
  • The mere concept of a cocaine-powered supervillain, who gets stronger the more cocaine he snorts, is inherently funny.
  • Snowflame is generally considered far more interesting than the New Guardians he faced off against in 1988, as they were mostly bland heroes while he was very hammy and over-the-top. These days, New Guardians itself is mostly known just for being where Snowflame is from, with the entire main cast being pretty much forgotten over a one-shot villain.
  • He delivers hilariously ridiculous dialogue during the fight, most notably "[c]ocaine is my God -- and I am the human instrument of its will!"
  • In 2020, writers for Catwoman found Snowflame so amusing that they retconned his death to be faked just to bring him back for two issues, though he never appeared since then.
