Smokey Brown is a supporting character in Jojo's Bizarre Adventure: Battle Tendency. He is an Afro-American guy who is introduced stealing Joseph's wallet and then caught by the racist cops. After Joseph Joestar rescues Smokey from the racist cops, the two later become friends and Joseph invites him to the restaurant with Erina Joestar, his grandmother. At the restaurant, Smokey was discriminated by a brass knuckle mob due to his ethnicity. The behavior of the mob brought ire to Joseph and Erina, because of his needless cruelty, Joseph, doesn't tolerates racism, gives him a payback. At the end of the story arc, he eventually becomes a successful politician of the NYC.

He is voiced by Yu Hayashi in Japanese dub and Robbie Daymond in English dub.

What Makes Him an Ensemble Dark Horse?

• Being the first Black Character in JJBA before Muhammad Avdol in Stardust Crusaders.
• His dynamic with Joseph Joestar, from strangers to best buds.
  • His pickpocketing of Joseph Joestar is out of necessity to earn the academic school, in the society known for being discriminative against Black Americans.
• Does not tolerate racism because of his ethnic background. It's why Smokey and Joseph Joestar becoming friends due to his anti-prejudice view, after saving him from being subjected by the racist cops and mob.
  • He is also a good counterpart of Dario Brando because he showed a genuine gratitude after Joseph saves him rather taking advantage of his savior.
• He becomes a mayor of New York City after Battle Tendency. Thus further winning the hearts of Black American representative fans such as those who against Black American Prejudice.
  • He also attends Erina Joestar's funeral in the epilogue.
