SmashAlex21 is the sona of the titular user found on Super Origami Universe (formally Super Origami Kingdom.) and its videos.
What Makes Him an Ensemble Dark Horse?[]
- In a channel that consists of a group of Mario obsessed manchildren that get angry over the smallest of things, Alex stood out almost immediately to viewers thanks to his great contrast to users like DogsEatingDogs6 and Jason Gomez. While they would be having a meltdown and throwing up over Mr. McMahon dreaming about "milking a fish", Alex would be giving a more constructive, professional and mature criticism whenever he was speaking. As such, viewers quickly grew to like Alex due to his mature personality and being a lot more easy to understand than the other members.
- Alex gained further respect amongst viewers for also calling the members out on their immaturity. For instance, he calls the group out for their overdramatic reaction to the aforementioned dream sequence involving Mr. McMahon, and later tells them to calm down and points out how they were meant to be doing a professional review.
- Viewers may also feel some sympathy for Alex, given he is a real-life close friend of one of SOU's main members (MrLProductions) who was accidentally pulled into the group due to their involvement.
- Many people were heavily disappointed that he only appeared in the Surf's Up 2 rant, as they felt that a straight man that would contrast the chaos the other users were making would make for an interesting dynamic that may've made SOU's original rants more tolerable.
- Those who still followed SOK after its rebranding to Super Origami Universe (from which members like DED6 also went on to become more mature) were pleasantly surprised to see Alex return in the group's video on the Switch 2 direct, with many even happy to see him return. In addition, MrLProductions previously stated Alex had expressed interest about a possible return to SOK, meaning he may return to the group as a permanent member.[1]
- Ultimately, Alex is arguably the most popular member of the former Super Origami Kingdom despite his one-time video appearance (save from his recent comeback), mainly due to being a lot more likable and his mature demeanor in contrast to the group's childish behaviour.
Trivia[]
- There is an argument to be made that Alex does not qualify as an EDH, given he is not a character a moreso the sona of the titular user (which even then they are just the sprites of Apollo Justice.) However, the EDH criteria does not specifically outlaw this, meaning that to a degree he can count as one. Plus, his small amount of screentime in the video and him standing out amongst the group so well do fit the criteria.
