Why Do People Love The Character?

Since the first season, he took an opportunity to usurp his superiors from Skales to Pythor, the former is reduced to a puppet king to Lloyd while the latter really does have poor planning. He also the one who made alliances with any other Serpentine tribes, including Pythor of the Anacondrai tribe.

In the next season, he eventually usurps Lord Garmaddon by throwing him off to the sea, becoming The Serpentine King he wanted to be. He then enacts his revenge plan by burying the Ninjago City from the underground, only to be sealed underground after being defeated by the Stone Army.
He eventually abandons his revenge plan against the Citizens of Ninjago, reforming his people, turning his prison into an underground settlement for living, and married Selma, a female Hypnobrai and had Skales Jr.
He also assists the Masters of Spinjitsu, the former enemies of the Serpentine, by informing the secrets of the Golden Master and the user of Electro-Cobrai was none other than his former superior, Pythor himself.
Despite vowing never return to the surface, he evacuates the Citizens of the New Ninjago City from the attacks of The Overlord/The Golden Master.
He led the Serpentine assisting the Ninja to defeat Master Chen, the perpetrator of the Second Serpentine War. When Master Chen and his lackeys was banished to the Cursed Realm, he, along with his son, helped to clean up the mess in Corridor of Elders.
After Nya's sacrifice herself when fighting Kalmaar and her departure, Scales and Acidicus were shown attending Nya's funeral, which takes place in The Monastery of Spinjitsu, the place where he and the Hypnobrai tribe once had burned in the first season.
In Crystalized, he allied with the Masters of Spinjitsu fighting against The Overlord (Crystal King) once more in the final battle.

Skales is a major supporting character in LEGO animated cartoon Ninjago: Masters of Spinjitsu. He was originally a Hypnobrai Warrior and Slithraa's second-in-command before becoming the Hypnobrai General and crowned as The Snake King of the Serpentine. He currently lives with his family, married to Selma and had a descendant Skales Jr., finally reforms his people from seeking revenge into living along with the citizens of Ninjago City for real.

He is voiced by Ian James Corlett, who also voiced Master Chen, Clancee, and other characters in the same show.

What Makes Him Ensemble Dark Horse[]

Skales, in general, is an expert strategist who is brilliant in planning and expert in martial arts of Fang-Kwon-Do. He's also an old friend with Fangtom of Fangpyre Tribe. Skales also one of the most developed Ninjago characters starting as an opportunistic usurper to a benevolent ruler who abandoned his evil ways to live in harmony with the citizens of Ninjago City, with even having a newfound family, cementing him as one of Ninjago's magnificent baddies.
- As a result, the Serpentine has an expanded lore between themselves, the Great Devourer, and the Second Human-Serpentine War.
From Rise of the Snakes and Legacy of the Green Ninja, Skales was formerly an antagonist in the villainous ensemble consisting of Lord Garmaddon and Pythor P. Chumsworth. He was started as a Hypnobrai warrior usurping Slithraa's position when he witnessed that Slithraa was reduced to a puppet ruler to young Lloyd Garmaddon. Therefore, Skales won in trial by combat by using Fang-Kwon-Do against Slithraa and banishes Lloyd Garmaddon from the Hypnobrai Tomb.
- He makes an alliance of four Serpentine tribes and Pythor P. Chumsworth, only for being demoted to Pythor's 2nd in command.
- Skales seizes the opportunity to usurp's Pythor's position after the latter gets eaten by The Great Devourer, the creature whom he unleashes, only for Lord Garmaddon usurping his position after defeating The Great Devourer, becoming 2nd in command once again, much to his dismay.
- Skales eventually banishes Lord Garmaddon by throwing him off to the sea, crowned as The Snake King for real. He enacts his revenge plan to the citizens of Ninjago to bury them from beneath the surface, only to be sealed underground after being defeated by the animated Stone Army.
In 3rd season, Rebooted, Skales and his Serpentine tribe eventually reforms and abandoned his revenge plan after turning his underground prison into a village and having new a family with Selma, a female Hypnobrai. He became a kind father towards Skales Jr., his son and a reasonable leader for his people. He assists the Masters of Spinjitsu, the Serpentine's former enemies, to shares the tales of The Golden Master and informs the heroes that the wielder of Electro-Cobrai is none other than his once former superior, Pythor.
- He later helps the citizens of the New Ninjago City evacuate into the underground from The Overlord's wrath, despite vowing to never return to the surface.
In Tournament of Elements, Skales and the Serpentine tribe would later help the Ninjas defeating the Anacondrai Cultists led by Master Chen, the perpetrator of the Second Serpentine War, who violates the truce between Humans and Serpentine for his own merit.
- It's shown that Master Chen also stole his crown and placed within his museum, somewhere before Torunament of Elements story arc.
In The Hands of Time, Skales explains to Lloyd that the Vermillion Warriors were the first progeny of The Great Devourer. Despite prioritize protecting his family, Skales did gave Lloyd a map to the Vermillion Swamps and wishes him and the heroes best of luck.
In Seabound, after Nya sacrifices herself to defeat Kalmaar and departs after, Skales along with Acidicus attends her funeral, taking the place in the Monastery of Spinjitsu where he and the Hypnobrai once burned down in the first season.
In Crystalized, Skales would later assist the Ninjas in the final battle against The Overlord once again after The Dark Being had crystalized some of his people.
He does have some of the funny moments before he and his people had heel-face turn, such as taking the photos with human kids with Pythor in the first season.
- Also, his dynamics with his former superiors, being the only sane man to the reckless Anacondrai general Pythor and the puppet Hypnobrai general Slithraa and then having a teeth-clenched teamup with Lord Garmaddon before having usurped their position.
Skales made an appearance in a non-canonical video game, LEGO Ninjago: Shadow of Ronin as an unlockable playable character.
- He also appears in the the LEGO Ninjago Movie Videogame as an unlockable character if the player has achieved a silver medal status or higher in training dojo in The Slithering Catacombs.
