Tsarevich Alexei, where are you? Blessed child, can you hear my prayers? I have done so much in your name. I have defied the Jews, the Bolsheviks, and the forces of Hell itself. How many lives - subhumans, traitors, heathens - have I crushed under the iron heel of the Regency? How many sacrifices have I piled up on the altar? I truly do not know. Please, my blessed prince. If you will not hear my voice, then see my words.
~ Sergey Taboritsky, in his journal.

Sergey Taboritsky is one of main characters who appears in The New Order: The Last Days of Europe, the popular mod for the 2016 game Hearts of Iron IV.

What Makes Him an Ensemble Darkhorse?[]

  • During the pre-release teasers, the developers of TNO warned that Taboritsky's unification was one of worst paths to unify both Komi and Russia at large. Despite this warning, this didn't stop the fans from being hyped about experiencing Taboritsky's path to see how cursed his version of Esoteric Nazism really was.
  • Despite not being one of the main characters of TNO outside of his player-dependent path in Komi, Taboritsky's unification route is still one of the most discussed paths in the entire game for how bleak and nightmare fuel inducing it is.
  • As horrific as Taboritsky's path and regime are, some of his endings, such as his realization that Tsarevich Alexi Romanov isn't coming back and his increasing sanity slippage, were viewed as sympathetic and a bit tragic. This level of sympathy for him was unexpected.
    • Furthermore, his obsession with Alexei provided fanfic fuel in the form of a potential return of Alexei, or at least an impersonator, to Russia. In the Post-Midnight endings, this was alluded to by the devs.
  • "Verifiy Your Clock", Taboritsky's unification theme that was originally heard in a 1963 Soviet propaganda cartoon, has since become a meme to represent both Taboritsky and the Holy Russian Empire at large.
  • Broadly speaking, the TNO fanbase will make memes of dark topics, and the sheer brutality of Taboritsky's regime was fuel for black comedy memes.
