Saria is one of the minor characters of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and the best friend of Link. She is known for playing her fairy ocarina in the Sacred Forest Meadow and she later becomes the Sage of the Forest Temple.

What Makes Her an Ensemble Dark Horse?

• What makes Saria so notable is that she is the first ever best friend to Link, and she is exceptionally kind to Link which brings a stark contrast to the much meaner Mido.
  • As described by a Kokiri girl in her house in a time where Link was an adult and not yet completed the Forest Temple, Saria has an offscreen moment of awesome where she defends Link when Mido was spreading lies about Link's involvement in the Great Deku Tree's death when it was really Ganondorf's fault until she left for the Forest Temple where she heard a call to awakening as the Forest Sage.
  • Additionally, she is the only known Kokiri to recognize Link whereas the rest of them don't due to Link actually being Hylian and having grown up, which the Kokiri all remain children and are unaware of this revelation.
• Saria has a very memorable theme song that plays in the Sacred Forest Meadow that she always plays when Link is a child, and it is so catchy that the neighboring Gorons are extremely fond of this song, and it even plays a crucial role in getting Darunia to snap out of his grouchy state. At the end of the game, it's strongly implied that she and Darunia became good friends.
• She is shown to be a very brave and selfless character who went to the Forest Temple to help save the Kokiri from the monster infestation which is brought about the curse by Phantom Ganon.
• She is given a larger role in the bonus section of the Ocarina of Time manga where she helps Link and Mido defeat the Baga Tree and save the Skull Kid from the brainwashing.
• She has been the subject of many fan fics due to the subtle implications of romance that didn't come to be in-game, to which the authors of such fan fics managed to pull a Deux ex Machina to allow them to be together.
• She was so popular that fans were still very bitter about her not being present in Hyrule Warriors and being replaced by the base-breaking Lana.
