Ryoma Hoshi is a supporting character in the Japanese visual novel game, Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony, titled the Ultimate Tennis Pro. He is voiced by Akio Otsuka in the original Japanese version and Chris Tergliafera in the English dub.

What Makes Him An Ensemble Dark Horse?[]

To get the elephant out of the room, Ryoma is an extremely tragic character. He lost his girlfriend to a mafia (whom he massacred as an act of revenge) and was possibly sexually harassed as an inmate. As a result of his tragedies, he became perpetually depressed to a point of being suicidal. Based on his motive video, he has no living loved ones. Because of this, many fans sympathised with his unfortunate backstory. In fact, many fans found his death sad.
While his design may massively fall Danganronpa's incredibly high standards of having a nice appearance, some fans like his outfit and find him to be rather cute.
Fans enjoy his use of idioms such as "Cool your jets" or "Why the long face?". In fact, his line "You've still got ways to go, kid" is well-liked amongst fans.
Chris Tergliafera's voice acting is beloved amongst fans.
Despite being well-liked amongst fans, Ryoma is only a secondary character who died in the second chapter.
He is mentioned to love animals, especially cats, which some fans may relate to.
His stoic demeanour brings a dark atmosphere to his character, which fans may enjoy.

Trivia[]

Originally, Ryoma started off as not very beloved by fans, with him being the 15th most popular character. However, he eventually became more well-liked over time.
