Rattlesnake Jake is the secondary antagonist of Nickelodeon's 23rd full-length animated feature film Rango.

He is a dangerous Western diamondback rattlesnake outlaw who never leaves the town of Dirt without taking at least a single soul. The movie later reveals that he had been secretly working with Tortoise John, Dirt's mayor, who wants all of the citizens to move in order to build a modern city.

He was voiced by Bill Nighy.

What Makes Him an Ensemble Dark Horse?

• The character doesn't contribute to the story at all until the end of the second act of the movie, when he first shows up. Despite this, he is perhaps the most popular character in the entire movie.
• He is memorable for his intimidating presence, showing no mercy to those that he kills. He even proves himself too vicious for Mayor Tortoise John to reign in.
  • He is well-known for the scene where he tears apart Rango's façade in front of the entire town, which causes him to run out of Dirt, and Rattlesnake threatening the townsfolk to follow John's demands.
• Towards the end of the movie, when Rango proves himself to be a true hero, Jake fully acknowledges Rango as someone worthy of his respect. This shows that Jake is a criminal with sense of honor (unlike his "boss" Tortoise John).
  • Showcasing how much fans liked the moment, Jake's line from the scene rose to be a pretty spread out meme: "I tip my hat to you, one legend to another."
