Muffet is a minor antagonist in the 2015 indie RPG Undertale. A spider saleswoman who seeks to raise enough money to save the spiders in the ruins, Muffet was given a bounty on the player's after being informed of their supposed hatred towards spiderkind.
What Makes Her an Ensemble Dark Horse?[]
- While she initially appears to be a greedy person only interested in money, digging deeper reveals that she does have good intentions, wanting a safe route for the spiders in the Ruins to escape through. Killing her will cause her to only drop the amount of money that the player had given her, showing just how desperate she is.
- Muffet is also quite reasonable, only attacking Frisk due to being tricked by someone into thinking that the human tortured spiders. After cooling off, she lets Frisk go.
- Should the player kill her, Muffet has a unique death where one of the spiders she was looking after lays a flower where she once stood.
- Muffet's design and concept are generally considered to be cute, cool, and creepy all at the same time, being an anthropomorphic spider girl who has a giant monstrous pastry for a pet.
- Her boss fight is considered both challenging and fun, with a multitude of ways to either make it easier or end it early. The fact that she is the only miniboss who is able to change the color of the SOUL helps.
- Her theme, "Spider Dance", is also considered to be a great track as well.
- Despite her having nearly no importance in the plot, fanworks tend to give her a bit more relevance.
- Muffet is one of the game's backer characters, and is generally agreed to be one of the best ones, to the point where many who are uninitiated with the game thought she was a major character.
Trivia[]
- Muffet was designed by Michelle Czajkowski, creator of the webcomic Ava's Demon.
