Mr. Tanaka (タナカ) is a supporting character from the anime, Sonic X. He is a butler hailing from Japan and a bodyguard serving for Thorndyke family.
He is voiced by Darren Dunstan in the English dub and Naoki Imamura in the Japanese dub.
What Makes Him an Ensemble Dark Horse?[]
- Mr. Tanaka is a try-hard battle butler who often watched Asian martial arts movies, but he always keeps trying not to fall thanks to his spiritual meditation. He took care Chris Thorndyke when Nelson and Lindsay Thorndyke were absent.
- Western audience recognizes him being more relatable than Chris despite being a token minority. In fact, being Chris' substitute surrogate parent really helps. Because of his reception by the Western Fanbase, he appears in the comic book adaptation of Sonic the Hedgehog.
- During his adventures, Tanaka also developed a little sign of crush on Topaz after he saved her from the Egg Golem.
- He also capable of piloting the space shuttle. When he asked where he learned to fly one, he had no idea because space travel isn't part of his butlership. 
- In English Dub, speaking with a stereotypical Japanese accent, he is voiced by Darren Dunstan, who is known to be the voice of Master Splinter from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2003 cartoon series.

- Mr. Tanaka is one of the Ensemble Dark Horses originated from Sonic X, along with Topaz, Helen, and Molly.
- In the Japanese dub of the episode Emerald Anniversary, Mr. Tanaka stated he would commit seppuku out of shame should he failed his goal as a butler. This dialogue was censored in English dub in courtesy of 4KidsTV, in which replaced by "Not deserving a uniform for failing".
