Kim Jeong-rae, more commonly known as Mr. Kim, is a supporting character in Netflix's Survival Thriller series Squid Game. He is a loan shark and has a bunch of henchmen. Originally Gi-Hun's cruel debt collector, he threatens Gi-Hun to pay up his debt before the deadline, or he will punish him with cruel methods. After Gi-Hun wins the 33rd Squid Game, he pays his debt to Mr. Kim and hires them to help Gi-Hun track down the Recruiter.
He is portrayed by Kim Pub-lae.
What makes him an Ensemble Dark Horse?[]
- Despite appearing in only 2 episodes and being a cruel loan shark in Season 1, he is one of the most remembered characters in Season 2 due to his friendship with Woo-seok.
- Kim befriends Choi Woo-seok before the events of Season 2 and also officiates his wedding ceremony.
- His relationship with Woo-seok, although short-lived is one of the most memorable moments among fans.
- He sacrifices himself to save Woo-seok by purposely losing the Recruiter's game.
- His death is played sympathetically among fans as he is killed infront of Woo-seok by the Recruiter's gun.
- He has been used in many of the Recruiter edits when he is talking about the Recruiter in the subway and find him playing Ddakji, further boosting his popularity.
