Lamp Oil? Rope? Bombs? You want it? It's your's my friend, as long as you have enough rupees.

Sorry Link, I can't give credit. Come back when you're a little... Mmmmmm, richer!

Morshu is a minor character from the CD-I game Link: The Forces of Evil. He is the owner of a shop in Koridai that sells lamp oil, ropes, and bombs to Link.

What Makes Him an Ensemble Dark Horse?[]

  • Morshu had only appeared in a single game, and one that isn't considered canon to the Legend of Zelda franchise. On top of all of that, the character only serves as an NPC that appears in the game's designated shop area, and isn't at all important to the plot. Despite this, Morshu is one of the most popular characters in the game, overshadowing almost every other character.
  • Much of the game is fairly infamous for its low-quality cutscenes, poor voice-acting, and terrible writing. Morshu seems to stand out amongst the crowd however, thanks to one of his lines, where he utters the phrase "Mmmmm, richer", when Link can't buy one of the items at the store, like he's roasting Link for being broke. Additionally, the "Mmmmm" vocalization is one of the things that the character is best known for.
  • Morshu was, and still is, a popular subject of YouTube Poops and Internet memes, often making use of his only two lines in the entire game.

Trivia[]

  • The meme had gained a bit of a resurgence, strangely enough in 2020, as a result of a Twitter user using a GIF of the character in a joke post regarding Hazbin Hotel.
  • The character had gained even more popularity when the YouTube user Hoolopee made a CGI animation recreating one of his famous cutscenes.
  • He is the current icon of the Categories Needed template.
