Maria Robotnik is a posthumous protagonist in the Sonic franchise, making her debut appearance in Sonic Adventure 2.

In Japanese Dub, she is voiced by Yuri Shiratori. In English Dub, she is voiced by Moriah Angeline in Sonic Adventure 2, Rebecca Honig in Shadow the Hedgehog and Sonic X, and currently voiced by Stephanie Sheh in Sonic x Shadow Generations: The Dark Beginnings.

What Makes Her an Ensemble Dark Horse?

• Despite only appearing in flashbacks due to being dead and being out of focus in the Sonic franchise since Shadow's spinoff game, Maria still managed to garner a sizeable fanbase because of her design and background.
• Her kind personality and being one of the few people who belong to the Robotnik family who is genuinely a good person also drew fans to Maria's character.
  • Her death at the hands of the nameless GUN Soldier is a catalyst of Shadow's cynicism and Professor Gerald's Despair-Driven Hatred of Humanity, even though the GUN military was responsible.
• Many fans feel that Maria's backstory isn't really explored enough in flashbacks to the point where, in several Sonic fanfics that center around Shadow, often include Maria and explore her backstory a bit more.
• Even though Maria stopped appearing in the games after Shadow Generations, her popularity despite her lack of backstory made her a favorite among fanfics.
