Les Grossman is the overarching antagonist of the 2008 satire film, Tropic Thunder.

He is the abusive studio head who attempts to make the Tropic Thunder movie in return for massive profits.

He was portrayed by Tom Cruise.

What Makes Him an Ensemble Dark Horse[]

Tom Cruise does a hilariously over the top and hammy performance works extremely well with his character and the tone of the film. It’s especially funny due to Cruise improvising Les's lines and straying from his usual roles.
Les has a powerful impact despite only appearing in roughly four scenes and makes the most out of every scene he’s in.
Les's repeated boasts to the Flaming Dragon cartel are very memorable.
Les is capable of being a laughably evil character, such as his dance scenes, while still being capable of being a very intimidating antagonist, such as revealing to Rick that he will not help Tugg Speedman.
The ending of the film, where he suddenly breaks into a dance when he sees that he’s alone, is considered one of the funniest scenes in the movie.

Les became so popular with both audiences and the makers of the movie that there have been talks about making a spinoff film about him.
Tom Cruise attended an MTV movie award for Tropic Thunder as Les Grossman.
