The Killer Rabbit of Caerbannog is a major antagonist in the 1975 iconic classic British comedy film Monty Python and the Holy Grail. As its name suggests, it is a carnivorous white hare guarding the cave that King Arthur and his comrades have encountered.
Its vocal sound effects were provided by Ian Crafford.
What Makes it an Ensemble Dark Horse?[]
- Like the Black Knight, the Killer Rabbit brought a fountain of comedy in the film in one scene.
- The Killer Rabbit of Caerbannog is a parody creature character based on the rabbit in the marginalia in the illuminated medieval manuscripts, in which depicts a knight fleeing from a rabbit, symbolizing a sign of cowardice. In a twist, the Killer Rabbit is actually a murderous creature that terrifies Tim the Enchanter because of the surrounding pile of bones, signaling there were someone else who tried to kill the rabbit and mauled to death. Ignoring Tim's advice, King Arthur finds the hard way.
- It kills Sir Bors instantly in a single leap when he attempted to kill the rabbit. King Arthur led the band of his knights to kill the rabbit, but no avail. King Arthur has to resort using the Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch to kill the rabbit, as Sir Lancelot suggests.
- The Killer Rabbit has become a breakout archetypal character of a cute but harmful animal in the pop culture.
