Why Do People Love The Character?	She's one of the most loving and good-hearted people of the franchise but she had to die in one if not the most painful traps possible, making her so tragic that nearly every fan would stand up for her.

Joyce Degan is the tertiary protagonist of Saw 3D and the wife of the main protagonist Bobby Dagen. Seemingly living a normal life, everything changes when Bobby got the idea to write a story about his alleged escape from a Jigsaw trap in hope to gain fame and a big profit out of it. Joyce encouraged him with her heart, not knowing, that Bobby lied her and his whole audience in the face.

She was portayed by Gina Holden.

What Makes Her an Ensemble Dark Horse?

• She never married Bobby Degan because of the fame he had, in fact she married him before he got his idea, so in her case she really loved him by heart.
• When Bobby told her that he survived a Jigsaw trap, she immediately supports him in his plans to write his story down.
  • Again she had no ulterior motives for herself but only as encouragement for her husband who wanted to realise his plans.
• She's probably the most good-hearted person to be in a Jigsaw trap. She never did anything wrong in her screentime, she's only the target for Bobby Dagen.
• She didn't realize that Bobby lied until the end of his trial when he had to say her that he lied for the entire time. And even after everything he done to her, he is the only reason she's in this deadly situation, she confessed that she still loves him by heart and will forgive him.
• Because of Bobby's failure in his last test she had to die by slowly and painfully roasting alive and that incensed the Saw community. That was a complete contradiction of everything the audition learned by Jigsaw in the last seven movies and that was the most unfair execution of all Saw traps. Not only harmed this Mark Hoffmans already base-breaking status, but it ultimately sealed Bobbys Scrappy status, as everyboby wanted to see how Joyce survived.
• Saw 3D was the most unliked film of the franchise by critics and fans alike. Not only was Bobby a Scrappy main protagonist but ultimatly the 3D-effects received negative opinions and after yearly movies since seven years some actually were fed up by the formula. However Joyce never recieved negative opinions and was loved by the audience even today.

Trivia

• Originally it has dozen of other plans by the writers considering her character. There was one idea that she was actually the one with the idea to fake this story with Bobby just being the person who perform the act in front of the audience with her in the background. Or another version, where she actually enjoyed the fame and fortune that this story brought. If this would still be in the movie, she wouldn't be an Ensemble Dark Horse and Bobby wouldn't be a Scrappy.
