Jesus Quintana, also known as The Jesus, is a minor character from the 1998 Coen Brothers cult classic film The Big Lebowski, as well as the star of the spin-off film The Jesus Rolls. He is an eccentric bowling player with a criminal record who acts as a rival for Dude and his friends in the bowling league.

He was portrayed by John Turturro.

What Makes Him an Ensemble Dark Horse[]

In a film that's already filled with memorable characters who are Ensemble Dark Horse material, Jesus became one of the more iconic and popular characters from the cast, rivaling with Dude and his friends in spite of his short screentime.
John Turturro's spectacular performance. It is said that the Coen Brothers, who are usually not keen on letting their actors improvise, were so impressed by Turturro's delivery that they allowed him to build the character to his liking. He was even allowed to make his own film with the character of Jesus despite the Coens having no involvement with the plot and production.
His introduction scene was accompanied by an awesome rendition of Hotel California, which instantly engraved the scene in people's minds.
He has some incredibly quotable dialogues, such as his badass boast, "Nobody f**ks with the Jesus", made funnier by Turturro's voice and accent.
It is suggested that Jesus is a pretty messed up criminal, as Walter states he was a felon guilty of indecent exposure in front of a little girl and was beaten up by his neighbors as a result, while being also guilty of grand theft auto. Despite their clear dislike of him however, Dude and his friends agree that he is a pretty good player and a worthy rival, saying that "the creep can roll".
His dynamic with his partner Liam is hilarious, as Liam is one of the more down to earth characters in the movie and is presented as a normal professional bowling player in contrast with Jesus and his antics.
He is considered to be a great foil to Dude, who is a somewhat messianic figure throughout the film and a decent guy with a zen attitude, whereas Jesus is much more brash, arrogant and might see himself as a messiah from the way he speaks his name, akin to a false prophet.
