~ Martinez as he fights off against a Mutated Birkin |
J. Martinez, known by his code name GHOST, is a minor character in the 2019 remake of Resident Evil 2. He is an Umbrella Security Service soldier who was a member of the ill-fated NESTWRECKER Team, led by HUNK, the more experienced leader. He becomes the playable character in the non-canon side scenario The Ghost Survivor: Forgotten Soldier.
His voice actors in both English and Japanese are currently unknown.
What Makes Him an Ensemble Dark Horse?[]
- Like his fellow Umbrella NESTWRECKER Team members, they receive the characterization from being flat sociopathic soldier in the original game. Agent GHOST / J. Martinez was directly responsible for gunning William Birkin in self-defense when William is pointing at them. He then harshly berated by HUNK, who reminded their orders to bring Birkin in alive, seen in his POV video tape.
- The Operation NESTWRECKER was his first day mission and it went through emotional downhill from there, making him an evil counterpart to Leon S. Kennedy.
- Unlike Leon, Ada Wong does not have an emotional attachment to Ghost.
- Canonically, he was the very first victim at the hands of William Birkin, who injected himself with G-Virus. His death is played for sympathy as his fellow squadmate, A. Kirkpatrick, was seen begging to Birkin to stop rampaging to protect his comrades in their final moments, indicating their camaraderie to each other (Although HUNK survives the encounter).
- Fans remembered him to be the true instigator of the G-Virus Outbreak for shooting William Birkin in self defense to retrieve the G-Virus samples. The fanbase dubbed his acronym of his codename, Generic Human On Suicide Task, in response of HUNK's more awesome Human Unit Never Killed.

Trivia[]
- J. Martinez and Robert Kendo are currently the only Ensemble Dark Horses originating from the 2019 remake of Resident Evil 2. Ironically, both of them are playable characters in non-canon scenarios, whereas in canon, both end up dying.
- He was implied having a Hispanic ethnicity.
