Honey the Cat was a scrapped character that was intended to debut in Sonic the Fighters.
She would have been a fashion designing cat that competed in fight tournaments in the game, competing for the Chaos Emeralds and the right to destroy the Death Egg II to promote her brand.
What Makes Her an Ensemble Dark Horse?[]
- The character, while intended to play a major role in a mainline Sonic title, was ultimately scrapped, though she would later be fully implemented in the 2012 remake of the game due to her unexpected popularity among fans.
- Prior to the game's remake, the only way that one could play as the character was through hacking into the game's files. The elusiveness of the character served as one of the factors to the character's popularity.
- The character itself was essentially created as an Easter egg, alluding to the fact that the game's engine was the same one used for the game Fighting Vipers. Honey was based off of the character with the same name from said game (it was intended for her to be called "Candy" in English translations of the game), with the character even possessing some of the same attack moves as the character she was based on.
- The character's design stands out amongst those of the other characters in the cast, having an extraordinarily detailed outfit.
- The character became so popular; she was given a lot of screentime in the Shattered World arc of the Archie Sonic Comics.
