The Gingerbread Man, more commonly known as Gingy, is a supporting character in the Shrek franchise. He is a sentient gingerbread cookie created by the Muffin Man.
He was voiced by Conrad Vernon.
What Makes Him an Ensemble Dark Horse?[]
- Despite only appearing in a few scenes within each of the four movies (and a cameo appearance in Puss in Boots: The Last Wish), mostly serving as comic relief, Gingy is considered a favorite amongst most audiences due to his comedic moments.
- He has a sweet and cute character design that makes him appealing to younger audiences while staying in line with Shrek's subversive humor and scatological comedy.
- Conrad Vernon's voice acting as Gingy brings out a lot of memorable scenes and funny moments that stayed with the audience, such as his insults towards Lord Farquaad and Prince Charming.
- The scene in the first movie where he is interrogated by Lord Farquaad is considered one of the main highlights of that movie, being possibly one of the most memorable scenes in the entire franchise. The scene is even brought up in a flashback in Shrek the Third.
- Though he is mostly presented as a fragile and timid character due to being a cookie, he received positive acknowledgement for being very loyal to Shrek and his friends, having some helpful moments like when he aids during the prison break or when he gets his creator to make a giant version of him named Mongo.
Trivia[]
- He is one of three ensemble dark horses in the Shrek franchise, alongside Pinocchio and the Ethical Bug.
