Geno is a Star Warrior, whose real name is "♡♪!?", who appears in Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars as Mario's second party member.
What Makes Him an Ensemble Dark Horse?[]
- Geno has an interesting backstory. He is actually a yellow Star Spirit, and he was sent down to Mario's world to help him and his partners to save it, and help collect the Seven Star pieces to repair the broken Star Road. The star inhabits a small wooden doll (belonging to Gaz) to do battle against bad guys.
- Geno is introduced in the Forest Maze level, attempting to stop Bowyer from stealing the Green Star Piece, and helping Mario and Mallow defeat him.
- Outside of Super Mario RPG (and its Nintendo Switch remake), Geno also makes a small cameo in Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga in the Star 'Smash Stash arcade game, as the host.
- He, sadly, doesn't return in the 3DS remake, due to copyright issues with Square.
- He has the most powerful move in the game, Geno Whirl, which is capable of causing 9,999 damage. His other moves, like Geno Blast and Geno Beam, are also very powerful.
- Another likely reason for Geno's popularity is his unique design, being a wooden puppet.
- He promises to Gaz that he will see his owner again when his quest is complete. He also wasn't too happy to leave Gaz behind, but he still needed his doll body to complete his journey with Mario.
- Even though he is a one-time side character, the fans of the game love Geno to the point where they want him to appear in other Mario games, even though this isn't likely since he, along with the other original characters from Super Mario RPG are owned by Square.
