Fusilli is the titular main antagonist of the episode "The Great Fusilli" from Cartoon Network's Courage the Cowardly Dog.

He has a thick Italian accent (parodying other stereotypical magicians) and owns a traveling theater which he uses to search for potential "stars" to induct into his troupe, luring them in with the prospects of fame and fortune. Once his victims are snagged, Fusilli literally turns them into puppets that he can control via enchanted puppet strings, forcing them to perform on the stage for his own amusement.

He was voiced by Jim Cummings.

What Makes Him an Ensemble Dark Horse?[]

Excellent voice acting by Jim Cummings, parodying the Italian accent and giving the character an unusual charisma with his mostly calm and manipulative nature, even while seeming somewhat convincing that he has no ill intentions.
He has a cool and evil atmosphere throughout the episode, which is probably due to the way he skillfully manipulates people, always maintaining a subtle tone and rarely stepping out of himself, which makes him very competent.
Many fans and regular viewers of the show naturally remembered him for how dark his episode was, and many consider his episode to be one of the, if not the, creepiest episodes in the series. Naturally, he was remembered for the storeroom scene where he had a bunch of people he turned into puppets, the creepy music, turning Muriel and Eustace into puppets, and/or his ironic karma where he turned into a puppet himself, which creeped out a lot of people. Not to mention that the episode itself was planned as the show's finale before it was renewed for three seasons, leading to the emergence of a creepy theory and creepypasta that everything that happens in the following episodes is due to Courage's shattered sanity because he was never able to bring Muriel and Eustace back to normal.
His musical theme is incredibly evocative and creepy, based on Italian music, which helped make Fusilli and his episode even more iconic and evocative.
He is the only villain in the show to successfully kill the two main characters of the series, Muriel and Eustace, while the others only had close of it but failed to do so. Although the puppeted character still retains consciousness, it is still a physical death, as the victims cannot do anything in such a body without help. Also, although subsequent episodes undo the negative effects of the previous ones, this does not affect Fusilli's other victims.
His karmic defeat is comedic to some, as he mirrors Muriel's line at the end, which he says is due to his script - "Now how, brown cow!"
Despite only appearing in one episode, he was able to be remembered by fans as the scariest villain in the series with one of the scariest episodes, and to this day people still remember him as a childhood nightmare, while simultaneously marveling at how significant he is to the community.

Trivia[]

He and Freaky Fred are the only Courage the Cowardly Dog characters to be considered Ensemble Dark Horses, and are among the most popular villains in the franchise, so much so that when the series is mentioned, some people think of them.
