List of Disallowed Pages

Too Major

  • Ada Wong: Despite starting as an Ensemble Dark Horse in Resident Evil 2, she had become an ascended extra as she was being added to the main cast in later titles.
  • Bruno Madrigal: He is a secondary character, and very loved, but he influences the plot too much to qualify.
  • Death (Puss in Boots): Despite having limited screen-time, and being a fan-favorite, the character is the entire reason why the plot happens in the first place, and serves as a looming threat to Puss the whole way through.
  • Goro Majima: While he probably would have qualified as an EDH in the original 2005 Yakuza, his in-game role had ascended due to his popularity to the point where he's akin to one of the protagonists of the series. He's straight up playable in some of the games.
  • Hades (Disney): He is a fan favorite character from Hercules, but he's the main antagonist so he can't qualify due to him being too major.
  • Honest John: He may be a fan favorite to some people, but he’s one of the main characters, so he can’t qualify.
  • Kaede Akamatsu: Though she is a beloved character among fans, preferring that she be the main protagonist of the game, she is still one of its main characters, serving a crucial role to the game's story and being a playable character in the game's first chapter.
  • Lord Maliss: He is a fan favorite character of Happily Ever After, but he’s the main antagonist, so he can't qualify due to him being too major.
  • Lumiere: He is a fan favorite secondary character of Beauty and the Beast, but he is too major to qualify since he heavily influences the plot by playing an important role of freeing the kingdom by setting the stage for Belle and the Beast to develop a relationship and saving the entire castle by leading the whole servants to chase away the villagers.
  • Oogie Boogie: He has become one of the staple characters of The Nightmare Before Christmas franchise in every entry outside of his debut movie.

Too Divisive

  • Alphys: She is a highly controversial character in the Undertale fanbase. On the one hand, a part of the fanbase likes her for her awkward personality, and her romance with Undyne. On the other, fans hate the character due to them deeming the former reasons as more like annoying gimmicks. Additionally, repeat playthroughs of the game reveal that she was the one who created Flowey, experimented on sick monsters to create the Amalgamates, and had manipulated the player to feel better about herself, and never directly apologizes for the latter.
  • Bandana Dee: Not only was he pushed into being the fourth main character of the Kirby series, but when he was, fans became divided on him, with his detractors deeming him an odd choice for a breakout character, and would have been better suited for either Gooey or Adeline.
  • Big the Cat: Although the character had become more popular and has less of a hatedom in recent years, being a popular subject of internet memes, he is still generally a base-breaking character overall, and still isn't as popular as other minor characters such as Tikal and Cream.
  • Boba Fett: He was promoted ever since the prequel trilogy's second movie was created, where a chunk of the film focuses on his backstory. Additionally, people have increasingly been sour on the character, believing that he is overused, and that those that praise the character overestimate his abilities.
  • Bridgette (Total Drama): The character started off as an ensemble dark horse, but has become more polarizing in recent years, espescially after she cheated on Geoff.
  • Bubble Bass: While he initially started off as an Ensemble Dark Horse when he was a minor character in the show's first season, and a recurring character in its ninth season, many fans of the show came to dislike how he is portrayed in later seasons, as a stereotypical nerd. Contributing to this is how he also became a regular character, resulting in some fans believing that he's overused.
  • C-3PO: The overall opinion on him strictly falls in two different camps. Some fans like the character for his quirky traits and his friendship with R2-D2, while others feel that he is an oversensitive worrywart that never shuts up.
  • Coachman (Disney): His Karma Houdini status makes him too controversial, with some fans disliking the character for not being punished for his heinous actions. He doesn't quite have a large enough fanbase to save him, with other low screentime characters getting as much attention if not more.
  • Cody (Total Drama): He became a base-breaking character ever since World Tour, mostly thanks to how little he contributed to that series' stories outside of being a love interest for Sierra. Not helping is how his perverted tendencies can be considered gross and off-putting to some nowadays, compared to audiences in the late 2000s.
  • Cosmo (Sonic X): Even though the character has her fans, who like her for her unique design and her backstory, she also has her detractors that dislike her for said backstory being too angsty, and how most of her appearances either involve her weighing down other characters, or acting as a damsel in distress.
  • Father (The Sacrament): Although the character is a fan-favorite, the entire film focuses on the protagonists engaging in his cult compound.
  • Fred (SpongeBob SquarePants): Although he is well-known for the memetic "My Leg" gag and was even promoted to a larger role in later seasons, some fans feel that he is overused, as his primary purpose is just to make jokes surrounding the gag, making some feel that it had lost its luster.
  • Fred Fredburger: While he initially started as an Ensemble Dark Horse when he was introduced and was promoted to a major character fairly late in the series, he became base-breaking amongst the fandom due to his overexposure in promos, and his character being nothing but him reciting jokes about nachos and poopoo.
  • Galacta Knight: While he initially started as an ensemble dark horse due to his intimidating nature and unique design, he got pushed into being the franchise's secondary antagonist, with his detractors deeming him as a generic replacement for Meta Knight for Kirby to fight with little to no personality.
  • Georgette: While her funny and diva traits can be amusing to fans, she became base-breaking as several detractors accuse for her causing the problem of Oliver and Company, due to her bratty and antagonistic relationship with Oliver that led to Bill Sykes luring Jenny into his trap.
  • Gumbald: While some fans think that he is a dark and intimidating villain, especially for the show that he's in, others find the character to be incredibly shallow and undercooked in comparison to the show's big bad, the Lich.
  • Heidi Turner: After she got a bigger role in the series, she became a base-breaking character. Those who criticize the character view her as a flat character whose only purpose is to make Cartman look worse by being abusive towards her.
  • Kaa: Though funny among fans, he became base-breaking following his movie debut as many detractors find his hypnotic ability to be extremely creepy and annoying.
  • Kirumi Tojo: While not receiving as much criticism as most Danganronpa characters, she still gets a certain amount, especially in the west, due to fans finding her unintentionally unsympathetic in her goals or finding her personality bland compared to the colorful cast. Some also criticize her for being a Mary Sue with a laughably unrealistic single flaw of cutting onions.
  • King Stefan: While his fatherly and caring attitude towards his kingdom and family, including Aurora, is touching to many fans, he became base-breaking as it has been pointed out by several detractors who are fans of the villain Maleficent that the narrative treated him as being unintentionally responsible for Maleficent’s curse on Aurora. The change of his voice actor for the finished version also contributed this as some detractors pointed out that his personality seems to be almost similar to King Hubert.
  • Lilith Clawthorne: After it was revealed that she was responsible for cursing Eda, the overall opinion on her character became divided. While some fans have forgiven this act, others feel that she had passed a Moral Event Horizon, both for cursing her while she was asleep, and doing so with the intent on killing her. There is also a significant number of people that believe that she is too easily forgiven for her actions.
  • Lola Bunny: She is too base-breaking to count. Even in her debut movie, people have criticized the character for being an attempt to shoehorn diversity into the main cast, and to add unneeded fanservice.
  • Loona (Helluva Boss): As the series progressed, the reception on her has become more and more divisive, with her detractors deeming her a stereotypical "misunderstood goth girl" who treats everyone, including her own adoptive father, like they're nuisances.
  • Mephiles the Dark: The overall reception on Mephiles is very divided, with some claiming that he is one of the darkest villains in the whole franchise, while others see him as a poorly written excuse to make the game more edgy.
  • Morgan Jones: While Morgan used to qualify to be an ensemble dark horse, his character became more base-breaking when he joined the main cast in Season 6.
  • Obito Uchiha: While he initially started as an Ensemble Dark Horse, Obito's popularity became a bit more divided when it was revealed that he was Tobi the entire time.
  • Once-ler (Illumination): His popularity is a heavy subject of ridicule, especially due to more sexually suggestive fanart made on the character. Not to mention how die-hard fans of the original book find this version of him insulting.
  • Ozai (Avatar): While Ozai did build up a bit of a fanbase despite his limited appearances in Avatar with many people feeling he's a great villain, he also built up a bit of a hatedom with many people accusing him of being generic and one-dimensional.
  • Poop (The Emoji Movie): Though not nearly as disliked as the vast majority of the other characters in the movie, he is still fairly base-breaking overall. His detractors often deem him to be nothing more than Patrick Stewart making poop jokes.
  • Queen Leah: She is too base-breaking to count, as several detractors view her as a flat or pointless character and also criticize her for causing the conflict of the movie by poorly handling the situation regarding the lack of invitation to Maleficent that led to her placing a curse on her and Stefan’s daughter, Aurora.
  • Randy Marsh: He's a very polarizing character in the South Park fanbase, especially when he essentially became the main focus of Season 23. People either like him for his more humorous moments, or deem him as a personification of all of the later seasons' shortcomings.
  • Raymond (Animal Crossing): While his popularity undoubtedly overshadowed pretty much every character in the entire series, even rivaling Isabelle's for a time, his overexposure had ironically earned him enough backlash to become base-breaking.
  • Rosalina: While her backstory is touching to many fans, she became base-breaking following her debut game, with some fans considering her yet another Peach clone. Her addition to games such as Super Mario 3D World and Super Smash Bros. and the change of her voice actress in later games have also contributed to this, as some fans feel that she is overutilized, and that other characters could have taken up her spot instead.
  • Sally Acorn: Sally is a highly polarizing character amongst the Sonic fanbase, with fans of the franchise either loving her for her independence and wisdom, and her detractors deeming her as an inferior replacement to Amy, a flawless token character, and/or disliking her for her more clingy moments as depicted by certain writers.
  • Sans: While he initially started as an ensemble dark horse amongst the Undertale fandom, his popularity had grown so much that it had ironically imploded in on itself, and he had become divisive ever since. This is primarily thanks to the amount of fanart and fanfictions that surround the character, dwarfing that of all other characters in the game. His popularity grew so large that it had become a subject of mockery, with even fans of the character feeling that he is given too much attention compared to the other characters, and how said fanfiction often defile established traits about him in-game.
  • Scrump (Lilo and Stitch): The overexposure of the doll in merchandising for the Lilo & Stitch franchise had made a chunk of the fanbase resent her, making her base-breaking.
  • Silver the Hedgehog: He is sometimes cited as being a poor attempt to replicate the success of Shadow, given how he was easily fooled by Mephiles to fight Sonic. His association with Sonic 06 certainly didn't help matters either.
  • Snufkin: Outside of being a major character, his popularity is evenly matched by a minor character, the Joxter.
  • Spike (Buffy the Vampire Slayer): Started out as an ensemble dark horse as he was originally planned on being a one-shot monster of the week before being made the season 2 disc-one final boss, the fanbase's reaction towards him became divided as soon as he joined the main cast in later seasons with some still finding him hilarious and one of the best things about the series while others finding him wangsting to Buffy about his feelings to be annoying.
  • Splendid (Happy Tree Friends): Although starting off as an ensemble dark horse, the opinion on him soured over time, especially with how he is depicted as a selfish and petty jerk that got away with the deaths of many of the characters. It even got to the point where his one on-screen death in Gems the Breaks is considered one of the most satisfying moments in the show.
  • Stain: Even though he started off as an Ensemble Dark Horse, and still being viewed by some fans as a cool villain, many fans began to favor him less when the series had delved into his character further, especially when his backstory and ideology was explored, with many of his detractors deeming him a hypocrite and a poorly-written character.
  • Sugar Belle: She became base-breaking after becoming Big Mac's girlfriend, causing fans to believe that she had lost much of made her interesting, being reduced to nothing more than his love interest.
  • Trixie Tang: Even though she started as an ensemble dark horse due to several episodes in the show showing her true nature, such as her tomboyish interests and her nice side, people have come to dislike the way she was presented after being flanderized in later seasons, with her being mean to Timmy for no reason, and her snobby personality in said seasons. She is also disliked by fans who ship Timmy with Tootie.
  • Yuri (SPY×FAMILY): While a sizeable number of people like the idea of his character, being someone who deals with the secret police side of the war, people are divided on the character's relationship with his sister Yor, with the character's detractors deeming his affection towards her far too hammy for the manga to be taken seriously. Not helping is how many feel that this side of him essentially makes up his whole character.
  • Zero (Kirby): The overall role of Zero in the Kirby universe is still up for debate, with some believing that it as well as all other forms of Dark Matter just being a random species Kirby occasionally fights, while others interpret it as the true main villain of the series.

Disallowed Genres

  • Any pornographic/erotic works: Due to their very niche audiences, it would be impossible to pinpoint who in these works classify as a Ensemble Dark Horse due to praise primarily being toward certain scenes instead of "character." Some of the works may not even have a story.
  • Reality TV Game Shows: There are certainly contestants that many people root for, but these contestants do not qualify due to them being real people and not fictional characters.

Disallowed Franchises/Works

  • Animal Crossing: Many of the several hundred characters in the games share the same amount of prevalence and are solely separated by a set of categories in-game, leaving little room for competition amongst the minor characters. Additionally, Isabelle, a main character, far outshines almost all other characters in the franchise (with the sole exceptions of Ankha and Raymond, the latter of whom is also disallowed [see above]).
  • BlogTheGreatRogue: The works are all extremely controversial due to the normalization of things such as grooming, pedophilia, incest, rape and giving people who do these kinds of things sympathy despite there horrible actions, therefore making the works too offensive to be scaled here.
  • Eraserhead: The entire movie is open-ended, and the exact role that each of the characters play, if they can even be referred to as such, is ambiguous and left up to interpretation.
  • Tomorrow's Pioneers: Even though the show had spawned many memes due to its uncomfortable nature and cheap costumes, leading to it having an ironic fanbase, the show is far more shadowed by the controversy it caused.

Other Notes

  • All characters from sandbox games are disallowed due to no actions being required to finish the story, and all characters in the games having no discernible qualities or personality.
  • Any shock value or pornographic characters are not allowed.
