Doctor Livesey. A very good and cheerful person. Temper extroverted. Not married.
~ Dr. Livesey's introduction card.
The words "rum" and "death" should mean the same thing to you. Do you understand?
~ Dr. Livesey to Billy Bones, also one of his most iconic lines.

Doctor Livesey is a supporting character in the 1988 Soviet animated movie Treasure Island based off of the novel by the same name by Robert Louis Stevenson. He is the smiling doctor who accompanies Jim Hawkins on a ship to Treasure Island to find the lost treasure of Captain Flint.

He was voiced by Evegeniy Papernyy.

What Makes Him an Ensemble Dark Horse?[]

  • He came from an obscure 1988 Soviet animated adaptation of Treasure Island. Though it won some awards in the Eastern Bloc, the film was more so a cult classic than a hit. On top of that, it's popularity was mostly confined to Russia and Ukraine for decades as it was virtually unheard of in the English-speaking world until the 2020s.
  • He is quite a badass, as he struts with absolute confidence while still smiling. He manages to defeat three pirates while using his non-dominant hand and later causes the rest of the pirates to die on the spot by simply pointing out their bad smoking habits can lead to their deaths.
  • He smiles almost all the time and he has an absolutely confident walk, which became a meme.
  • He first attained meme status on the Russian social media website VK around the year 2018. From there, he was able to spread to the English-speaking internet via Twitter and TikTok starting circa 2021.
  • On the internet, he became associated with the "Gigachad" meme for his badassery, his cool demeanor, his confident stride, and his strong appearance. He also was featured in several phonk edits.
