NOTE: Only normal Dorako can be counted, as his Powered incarnation is not as popular. |

~ Koichi Oki and Masahiko Kumano on Dorako in Ultra Galaxy Mega Monster Battle: NEO |
Dorako is a recurring kaiju in the Ultraman series. He is a dragonfly-like kaiju from the Comet Tsuifon.
What Makes Him an Ensemble Dark Horse?[]
- People like his design, and how it was inspired by a dragonfly. Additionally, his hook hands, flight, and roar are very similar to Gigan from the Godzilla series. Made even more interesting by how Dorako actually predates Gigan by several years.
- While there exists several other popular kaiju in Ultraman, Dorako stands out as one of the very few kaiju in the original series to never fight Ultraman. Even when he returned as Re-Dorako, he still never met Ultraman.
- It's become sort of a tradition where Dorako does not fight the main hero of the series he appears in, as he also does not fight Gomora in Ultra Galaxy Mega Monster Battle: Never Ending Odyssey (aside from the opening credits) and only fights Agira in Mega Monster Battle Ultra Galaxy: The Movie instead of any of the main heroes or Ultras. He does, however, finally get to meet an Ultra in Ultraman X, where he briefly fights the titular hero in a flashback, though we do not see X kill Dorako, as it's treated more like the hero scolding the kaiju for bullying Mu.
- His concept suit is also intriguing, as it features one of his hook hands as a coiled up appendage, likely in reference to how he was supposed to have whip hands.
- While mostly irrelevant to the episode's main conflict of the hydrogen bombs, some fans wish Dorako played a bigger role in his episode, especially give how he came from the titular comet.
- He plays a more important role in The Little Hero, where he is the one who kills Pigmon as Re-Dorako.
- He has one of the coolest deaths in the show as Re-Dorako.
- His return in Ultra Galaxy Mega Monster Battle: NEO was welcome with open arms by fans, giving him a redesign (a curved snout, bigger head, thicker body, and matching hooks).
- His fight with Eleking is one of the most memorable fights in NEO, add on to how it's the only fight in the show where Eleking wins.
- To show how violent Rei was becoming, his loss against Eleking is treated unexpectedly tragic and sad, with the music highlighting this, and adding a sense of sympathy to the kaiju.
- He gets to return again as Re-Dorako to fight Telesdon, showcasing more of his brute strength in this form, albeit briefly.
- He returns again in Ultra Galaxy: The Movie, being given more screen time and attention than most of the other kaiju in the movie, which earned him a bigger placement on the movie's cast and poster.
- He was given a new ability in Ultra Galaxy: The Movie, to spit yellow fireballs. In fact, with this ability, between him, Saramandora, and Bemstar, Dorako deals the most damage to Rei and Mirai.
