Dark Link is an evil doppelganger of the main protagonist, Link and he has made a handful of appearances.
What Makes Him an Ensemble Dark Horse?[]
- Dark Link is considered to be a creative idea of an evil version of Link who would appear in different ways, usually through being created by the main villain or though the manifestation of Link's negative side.
- He made his first appearance in Zelda II: The Adventure of Link as the final boss, created from Link's shadow and evil thoughts by the Sage guarding the Tri Force of Courage, to see if Link could truly overcome himself worthy of gaining the full Triforce without succumbing to his selfishness or greed. As such Dark Link was the final obstacle standing in the way of Link gaining the Triforce to help Princess Zelda I awaken from her permanent slumber curse.
- Even though he is a flat character without any variance of personality, he is the subject of fan works where he is given a personality where he is made either a misunderstood shadow or a total monster.
- His boss fight in Ocarina of Time is fun and challenging and considered to be one of the better parts in the Water Temple, the infamously tedious dungeon in that game.
- While he doesn't appear in Breath of the Wild or Tears of the Kingdom, there is a set of clothes that are based off his appearance and gives players an idea on what he would have looked like if he actually appeared in these games.
