Chunky Kong is a major character in Donkey Kong 64, but a minor character in the Donkey Kong franchise. In Donkey Kong 64 as the final unlockable Kong. He is also stated to be the strongest of the Kongs.

What Makes Him an Ensemble Dark Horse?

• He is considered a far better character than his younger brother Kiddy Kong, who is not as favored as he is.
• While he isn't considered the best character in DK64, he is still widely liked as a character and considered fun to play as.
• Despite appearing in only one game (not counting the GBA port of DKC 3), he has consistently remained a fan favorite for his comedic bits and enjoyable playstyle.
• As stated before, he has plenty of funny moments, such as in the DK Rap where he quickly switches out of his disco attire and into his main clothes.
• Many fans also find him an endearing character for his cowardice and tough-guy persona.
• He is a very popular meme character, best exemplified by the 'Chunky's dead' joke from the parody song 'DK Rap (Where Are They Now?)' In which Chunky is stated to've died from unknown means. The deadpan delivery of the line and the long silence following made the meme quite popular and contributed to Chunky being a fan favorite.
• To the delight of many fans, he appeared as a background cameo in The Super Mario Bros. Movie, which a lot of people were happy about.
• Overall, he remains a beloved character amongst fans of the Donkey Kong series, despite being a one-off character.
