Nagisa Momoe, also known as Charlotte is a character from Puella Magi Madoka Magica. She was a magical girl who wished to give her mother the most delicious cheesecake in the world, until she became a witch and was later defeated by Homura Akemi. Once Madoka Kaname wished to erase all witches, she became part of the Law of Cycles.
She is voiced by Kana Asumi in the Japanese version and by Xanthe Hunyh in the English version.
What makes her a Ensemble Dark Horse?[]
- She only appeared in one episode for about 2 minutes, like pretty much all the other witches from the anime. Yet she became so popular that she appeared in lots of official and promotional arts (generally alongside Mami) and merchadise.
- Due to her popularity, she became an ascended major character on the movie The Rebellion Story featuring her human form, Nagisa, who, alongside Sayaka, entered Homura's witch barrier to help Madoka to save Homura. She entered disguised as her witch and became Mami's pet, to which people calls "Bebe".
- Even so, Nagisa in human form had a limited screentime and didn't have a big impact in the history neither. That didn't avoided Nagisa to become popular, being very commonly commonly included in the Holy Quintet on official merchandise.
- Nagisa also appeared on the game Magia Record and will reappear on the upcoming movie Walpurgisnacht Rising.
- She starred in the most disgusting yet iconic scene in the series, where she devours Mami and tears off her head. This shocking scene is what made Madoka Magica explode in popularity and become the most famous Magical Girl Genre Deconstruction of all time.
- She has cute and rather interesting design. She looks like a creepy doll whose head looks like an wrapped sweet, and her second form is like a worm who comes out of the mouth of its first form and has a clown-like face. Her animation is also very nice and cartoonish.
- Like Charlotte, Nagisa/Bebe has a adorable design and personality, and brought many funny moments to the movie.
- Her backstory revealed on Magia Record was really tragic. Her mother was ill and she was planning to wish to cure her illness, but she was abusive to her to the point that he tells her that having given birth to her is the reason for her problems, so instead she wished to give her a cheesecake. She doesn't even like cheese, but it symbolized the love she wished she had received from his mother, and wanted to use it give her mother that love. But then her mother was killed by The Sleepingwalking Ghost and never received her cheesecake, so she sold her soul for nothing. When she became Charlotte, she was surrounded by all kind of sweets but no cheese, symbolizing that she never got the love that she wanted. It is implied that she also mistook Mami's hair for cheese.
