~ Princess Zelda and the four Champions opening fire on Ganon in Hyrule Warriors Age of Calamity |
The Champions of Hyrule are a group of powerful elite warriors who were chosen to control the Divine Beasts to help Link and Princess Zelda fight Calamity Ganon. They first appeared in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and return in Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity.
What Makes Them Ensemble Dark Horses?[]
- The Champions all have very beautiful, vibrant, and colorful designs to them which helps them stand out.
- They also have a very diverse set of personalities that set them apart which makes them unique rather than copy-paste of one to another and they all like a family:
- Mipha is the shy, soft-spoken, gentle young Zora Princess who has a crush on Link and is considered the younger sister figure of the group. She is the team medic with her using her healing abilities to treat injuries, which is vital to the team.
- Daruk is the loud, jovial, and playful Goron Stalwart who is fast friends with Link, and he is considered both the father figure and the leader who takes control of the situation, and his defensiveness is reflected in his ability to project a forcefield.
- Revali is the proud, abrasive, and tough Rito Warrior who is known for having a strong rivalry with Link and the only one who shows animosity towards him, and he is considered the elder brother figure to the team who tends to tease his friends, but ultimately cares about them overall, and his insecurity and determination to be the best led to him developing the ability to summon updrafts. Revali's bond with the young Tulin and general nuances has helped move him from base breaking to well received.
- Urbosa is the wise, charismatic, and courageous Gerudo Chief who has a long history with Princess Zelda since the latter was a baby and she has a strong resentment towards Calamity Ganon for its former connection with her people in the distant past, and she is considered the mother figure to the team, and her fierce nature is shown through her ability to call down lightning with a snap of a finger.
- Their deaths are considered to be the most heartbreaking and it's easy to feel for them when their deaths affect their loved ones at home.
- Although the Champions weren't given much utilization in Breath of the Wild, Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity makes up for it immensely by giving them more screentime and development whenever they appear, and it helps that they are all promoted to playable characters and their interactions with each other helps to flesh them out even more.
- With Age of Calamity's existence considering it is an alternate timeline, fans speculate what kind of future it holds for the Champions since in this timeline, they are saved from the Blight Ganons by the future warriors from Breath of the Wild, and they now have the rest of their lives to worry about.
