Say hello to Arahabaki the Deity, a towering bronze fortress, if you ever saw one. This guy here's got a skill called Tetrakarn that'll reflect any physical attack you throw at it. Heheh, wait till Yatagarasu gets a load of them. Those dimwits are in for a real surprise.
~ Bragging Man, Soul Hackers 2

Arahabaki (Japanese: アラハバキ) is a recurring demon enemy in the Shin Megami Tensei games and its Spinoffs, including Persona. His appearance is like an ancient sculpture in the Japanese Prehistory.

What Makes Him an Ensemble Dark Horse?[]

  • As mentioned above, Arahabaki took the design of an ancient sculpture from Jōmon period named Dogū (Japanese: 土偶, literally "earthen figure").
  • Lore-wise, it's described to be an ancient god in Japanese Mythology as a symbol of Defiance, and being worshipped by Nagasunehiko, who was defeated by Emperor Jinmu in Ancient Japan. Arahabaki's records are shrouded in myth.
  • Is known for physical (& gun) repellent via passive ability or spellcasting (Tetrakarn). In which causing an early-game difficulty spikes if you are relying on Auto-Battles, as a substitute of Girimekhala.
  • Is Shigeo Komori's favorite demon ever to be designed.
  • In the anime adaptation of Persona 4, Arahabaki, represents the bond between Yu Narukami and The Fox, is summoned to fight Shadow Naoto, Kunino Sagiri, and Margaret's Cu Chulainn.
  • In Persona 3 anime movie adaptations, the protagonist Makoto Yuki summons Arahabaki when fighting Chidori Yoshino & against other Strega members.

Trivia[]

  • While Arahabaki is a male deity in Japanese Mythology taking a design of a Dogū, The Dogū itself is actually modeled after a woman.
  • In Persona 3 (including Persona 3 Reload), there is a clay figurine in Mayoido Antiques in the Paulownia Mall that is either a reference of Arahabaki or another Dogū sculpture.
