Alistair Covax is the main antagonist of the American Dad! sitcom Season 14 episode "Rabbit Ears." He is a tv demon who hosts a 20th century style TV show called Nighthawks Hideaway that he uses to lure in victims to be in his TV show.
He is voiced by Chris Pine.
Why is he an Ensemble Dark Horse?[]
- His episode is widely considered to be one of the few highly praised modern episodes of American Dad!, reminding fans of the old episodes that were considered great for their interesting subplots and humor. This is in spite of the baby Roger B-plot in the episode being disliked (though not given much focus and having no effect on Alistair's much more memorable A-plot.)
- His episode overall scored an 8.7/10 rating, while other Season 14 episodes average around 6 or 7, with the second most popular episode there "Stan & Francine & Connie & Ted" receiving a 7.5. It is considered by far not only one of the newer episodes but even one of the highest praised episodes of the overall show, for how different it is from other episodes.
- He is widely considered one of the series most terrifying and intimidating villains who creates one of the darkest episodes in the entire show all while still keeping bits of humor in touch with the comedic show just enough where the are still funny jokes found in the episode but don't take up too much of it and usually go hand-in-hand with the horror. He is exceptionally competent and even seems to succeed at the end of the episode which is liked compared to how most villains are treated as incompetent jokes who do not accomplish anything.
- He is considered a highly creative homage to a Twilight Zone villain parodying '50s TV show hosts and obsession with jazz. He is also well-liked for how he gives off a charming vibe and his funny over-the-top dialogue such as his love about Jazz and the way he says Fondue.
- Due to Stan's Flanderization over the years (even becoming a Base Breaking Character due to his jerkish and sometimes downright psychopathic behavior) as well as many fans disliking Tuttle due to how he came into the show out of nowhere and sometimes find him annoying, many fans find their torment at the hands of Alistair to be Unintentionally Unsympathetic. As a result of this, Alistair is not hated for what he does (which even then, would be intentional hatred) and even causes some fans to even root for Alistair rather than against him, despite how unambiguously evil he is.
