~ Agent Spider to Invincible |
Agent Spider is a minor character in the animated superhero series Invincible, appearing in the Season 2 finale "I Thought You Were Stronger". He is a spider-themed superhero from an alternate universe that Invincible meets during his fight against Angstrom Levy. He bears an obvious resemblance to the Marvel superhero Spider-Man.
He was voiced by Josh Keaton.
What Makes Him an Ensemble Dark Horse?[]
- Since Amazon was unwilling to acquire the rights for Spider-Man, they created a character who greatly resembled the hero but was legally distinct from him. Fans found this to be a hilarious and gutsy move.
- He's notable for being voiced by Josh Keaton, who voiced the title character in The Spectacular Spider-Man.
- Many found his suit to be cool, and it was even modded into the PC version of Marvel's Spider-Man a day after he debuted.
- He referenced dealing with the multiverse, which fans saw as a cool nod to the Spider Society from Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. Some fans even hope he appears in the upcoming Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse.
- Fans appreciated how Invincible had a web when he returned to his dimension, as it indicated Agent Spider helped him return home like Spider-Man did in the original comic.
- While the series has other legal stand-ins, such as Prof. Ock and the Caped Vigilante, Agent Spider has received the most attention as he is by far the most prominent.
Trivia[]
- He, Omni-Mark, and Target Mark are the only characters from the Invincible TV series to be Ensemble Dark Horses.
