~ Adam before his boss fight starts |
Adam MacIntyre, otherwise known as Adam the Clown is a psychopath appearing in Dead Rising and the Wii version Dead Rising: Chop Till You Drop. He was a clown performer found at the Space Rider roller coaster in Wonderland Plaza during the scoop Out of Control.
What Makes Him an Ensemble Dark Horse?[]
- While Adam was an early-game boss, hes managed to stand out as one of the most memorable psychopaths in all of Dead Rising. Many fans usually regard him as the perfect example of how to do a psychopath in the series.
- Unlike the other psychopaths, Adam generally seemed like one of the few who had genuine good intentions with what he was doing, keeping the rollercoaster powered on to keep his "audience" alive and scare the zombies away. The only reason he even attacks Frank in the first place is to ensure he doesn't turn the rollercoaster off, because as he says the zombies will simply come back.
- He immediately makes a chilling presence the moment he is introduced, laughing maniacally as he juggles active chainsaws.
- Adam famously gives access to the 'Bathroom Shortcut' upon defeat. After freeing the hostage he has on the rollercoaster, Greg Simpson, he will unlock a secret passageway between the Wonderland Plaza and Paradise Plaza restrooms, allowing for a much smoother and quicker way for Frank to escort survivors to the Security Room.
- Adam can also be regarded as one of the more sympathetic psychopaths, given the implications that he genuinely loved his job as an entertainer and may've even witnessed his own audience being killed by zombies.
- Adam's boss music is also super interesting, which is primarily thanks to the unintelligible lyrics. This of course, helps to make his character and his boss fight all the more memorable.
- Adam's chainsaws can be used after you defeat him, and they are highly regarded as some of the best weapons in the first game thanks to their high damage and long usage.
- Speaking of Adam's defeat, he also has one of the more gruesome demises of the psychopaths. Upon defeat, Adam falls to his knees and his chest lands right on his still-active chainsaws, causing them to rip through his stomach all while he continues laughing. Adam's memorability is especially heightened by this moment given the way he is defeated is quite gruesome.
- Since the first game, Adam has been consistently regarded as the most popular boss to've originated from Dead Rising. Capcom themselves are also very much aware of Adam's popularity, so much so he has been referenced in numerous pieces of Dead Rising media following the first game.
- His brother, Evan, appears as one of three psychopaths exclusive to Dead Rising 2: Off The Record, a non-canonical retelling of the second Dead Rising game starring Frank West instead of Chuck Greene.
- A clown zombie by the name of Bonzo appears in the movie Dead Rising: Watchtower, seemingly as a homage to Adam.
- Finally, he is an unlockable appearance Frank can take in Dead Rising 4's Capcom Heroes mode, allowing Frank access to new abilities related to Adam.
